Job Description

Our client is transforming how small businesses in the US access the insurance they need to grow and protect their businesses. They are doing this by building a technology and analytics platform that simplifies and streamlines the process for getting insurance. Instead of requiring that a business answer hundreds of questions, they are building a platform that aggregates the necessary data from public and private sources and then uses advanced analytics to underwrite and tailor insurance products that can be delivered in minutes, not days or weeks.

They are at the beginning of our journey and are looking for innovators and leaders that want to help them disrupt $80bn US small business market. Creating change is hard, but rewarding. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and they need our help. If you are resilient and get excited about building something that has never been built before, we want you to join! They are looking to recruit 2-3 underwriters to report to the Chief Underwriting Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving underwriting performance (measured by key metrics such as loss ratio and quote-to-bind) for a specific product line (business owner’s policy, excess, worker’s comp).

Skills & Requirements

The client is open to both candidates with an insurance background (likely underwriting or analytics) as well as ultra-smart candidates from tangential backgrounds (management consulting, analytics, financial services) who can demonstrate rapid adaptation to a new and demanding environment. It excites us if you have some kind of post-graduate qualification (actuarial exams, CPCU, ARe, MBA) or are in the process of obtaining one, and the client will be very supportive. All candidates will need to have technology and analytics as part of their “professional DNA”.
