Hey problem-solver! Are you our new Cloud Backend Engineer?
reMarkable is a Norwegian tech company that develops products and services to help people think better in a distracted world. In a short amount of time, we’ve grown from a small startup to having over 200 permanent employees and two fantastic offices in central Oslo. Following the successful launch of our second-generation paper tablet, which has been named as one of TIME's "100 Best Innovations of 2020", we’re facing new challenges and opportunities as we expand into the global arena. That’s why we’re currently looking for cloud backend engineers who can reason about complex problems and algorithms to turn them into scalable cloud solutions. We are unique in that we build our own hardware, OS, and software on all platforms. Are you ready to join the exciting growth of a truly unique technology company?
About the role
In order for our clients to seamlessly connect and interact, we need people who can design state-of-the-art backend architectures from scratch. That is why we are now looking for backend engineers who, together with skilled colleagues, will design systems that support the services on our digital paper tablet, as well as applications on mobile, desktop and web.
As a cloud backend engineer, you will collaborate with dedicated colleagues in cross-functional teams. You will develop cornerstone features and services that differentiate reMarkable in the market. Furthermore, you will enable inter-device communication and interaction across clouds, platforms and devices. At reMarkable, we have a certain luxury of not having to deal with much legacy and outdated technology. As such, we design and develop our own solutions mostly from scratch as part of our market strategy, from applications to hardware. We do our best to dispatch cross-functional feature teams so they can operate as autonomously as possible.
Further tasks and responsibilities
Work in cross-functional teams (UX, QA, and both native/web developers)
Design, develop and test backend services in Go or similar
Setup, monitor and run services in the cloud (GCP mostly for now)
Configure and administrate resources with Terraform
Build scalable and portable services, and always leave code better than you found it

Build efficient components/algorithms to serve a high volume of requests with low latency
Handle Petabyte data sets in-cloud
Design and implement intelligent and thorough testing strategies to ensure quality delivery
Continuously integrate and deploy your code, monitor it in the live service and learn through data-driven feedback loops on how to improve it
Who are you?
Higher education within Technology or other relevant fields
You’ve developed and maintained cloud backends
You are not new to Linux
You have worked with several programming languages
You have used AWS, Azure, GCP or private clouds, a combination thereof is an additional advantage
Experience in DevOps and work in cross-functional teams
