By joining us, you will be a key player in ramping up Northvolt Ett our first large scale European battery factory.

About the job
The HSE commissioning engineer will serve as the link between our HSE team in construction and manufacturing and the job will be a mix of time on site and plan, coordinate and conducting safety inspections and identify workplace hazards and correct them before they cause accidents during our commissioning phases.

In general you have proven project experience as a HSE engineer and good knowledge in workplace health and safety legislation, rules, regulations and reporting processes within Sweden.

You appreciate interacting with your colleagues and motivate them to contribute to a great safety culture at Northvolt in everything that is built, constructed, commissioned and installed.

In general you have a long experience in the field and have been working in large scale construction projects and start up with high demands on safety. The role reports to the Director of Safety, who in turn reports to the Vice President of Northvolt Ett.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Inform contractors of the HSE regulations and routines and observance of the same
  • Make sure that the HSE routines are observed and followed during commissioning activities
  • Responsible for HSE legal obligations (environmental- and flammable and explosive goods permit, Swedish environment legislation and applicable EU-directives) in commissioning planning and identify the key HSE obligations to achieved planed milestones in time.
  • Take part and contribute to applicable coordination meetings such as per block, with BAS-U, commissioning and toolbox.
  • Act as a contact person and coordinator in HSE matters with other project disciplines (construction and manufacturing), contractors and vendors working in same area as commissioning
  • Plan and facilitate safety walks for commissioning and start up
  • Monitor and follow up contractor's safety plans, risk assessments and method statement (RAMS) and Safe plan of actions (SPA)
  • Consult the production engineers and discipline coordinators, and if needed the area manager at deviations from project standards and other technical standards
  • Assist in the setup of project HSE management plan
  • Administrate, monitor and support responsible managers in incident handling system TIA

  • Initiate, lead and assist risk assessments related to commissioning and start up activities

  • Identify, quality check, conduct and follow up on risk analyses performed by contractors, vendors and Northvolt for the daily work

  • Identify and report violations of HSE rules to Program management

  • Train commissioning organisation in HSE processes

  • Prepare escalation and sharing of HSE events

  • Lead or participate in HSE incident investigations
  • Assist in various needs of HSE support for commissioning and start up organisation

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have :

  • Academic training as a work environment engineer, work environment specialist or similar, or equivalent knowledge obtained through longer work experience.
  • Knowledge of Swedish legislation in the field of work environment and its application.
  • Experience of HSE from larger industrial projects
  • Good knowledge and/or experience of working with risk analyses and investigation methodology

Bonus points for:

  • Experience and interest in manufacturing industry
  • Fluency in other languages (Japanese, Swedish, Chinese, French)
  • Experience from a multi-cultural environment
