Northvolt has an exciting job offer for an Environmental Permitting Specialist to join our passionate Green Factories team responsible for ensuring the delivery of the world’s greenest battery factories.

We are looking for a person with a passion for sustainability, stakeholder dialogue and industrial environmental performance. You are excited about the opportunity to maintain Northvolt’s track record in obtaining complex environmental permits at record speed and ensuring minimum negative impact on the environment. You will be a key project member taking part in site selection and planning for Northvolt’s factory expansions, where we are now scaling up rapidly in Sweden and beyond. Experience in environmental permitting is preferred, but not a must. The key quality we are looking for is an ability to quickly learn and serve as an excellent project manager.

The Green Factories team is a part of Northvolt’s Sustainability & Environment team, which today consists of 11 professionals dedicated to setting, driving and enforcing sustainability requirements and roadmaps for the organization.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serving as environmental permitting lead as part of new factory projects and amendments to existing permits
  • Project managing environmental permitting processes, including appointing and managing consultants as required
  • Drafting environmental permitting applications and leading public consultation processes
  • Liaising with a wide range of stakeholders as part of the site selection and environmental permitting process, including but not limited to authorities, CSOs, utilities, land owners, and the general public
  • Supporting local organizations in achieving environmental permit compliance

Skills & Requirements


Qualifications/education/experience

  • MSc or equivalent in relevant field, e.g. environmental engineering, environmental law or similar
  • Strong project management experience and capabilities
  • Preferably experience in environmental permitting process for industrial establishments
  • Knowledge of Swedish and European environmental laws and standards
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Swedish
