reMarkable is seeking a Design Researcher in Oslo.

Are you ready to own the overall user validation in product teams to further develop defined concepts until it reaches the market?

reMarkable is recruiting for the position of Design Researcher to validate early-stage concepts. The concept validation process in reMarkable includes contact with existing and potential customers to gain insight into how product concepts resonate with the target audience. Insight retrieved from the validation process plays a vital role in ensuring the final acceptance of our launched products.

You will be a part of a team working on projects run by the rM Device Tribe. The Device Tribe is responsible for the physical device, accessories, and operating system on the devices. As a team member, you will be supporting the product development process from engineering prototypes to mass production.

As a Design Researcher at reMarkable, you will be part of the Design Research subject together with other six colleagues. The other subjects in the Design department are: User Experience, Service, Visual, Product and Mechanical Design).

The role

We are looking for someone who loves to talk to people on a recurring basis and has a thirst to understand the cross-link between people's needs, behavior, and technology. The role is to own the overall product validation process and proactively suggest research activities that provide insights into the team's unanswered questions. You will need to have the skill to translate and communicate the impact of the insight to various stakeholders to enable informed decisions. You have to be creative and spin up ideas on validating confidential concepts. You will also work with operational tasks like recruiting and scheduling for user testing and feedback sessions.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Provide rM organization with a framework for validating products against customers' needs throughout the design/development process until final product design.
• Validate prototypes, run usability testing, analyze and synthesis your own and existing insight.
• Be the voice of the customer throughout the organization by communicating relevant insights to increase empathy with the customers and potential customers.
• Advocate for colleagues in reMarkable to collect user insight by giving them the knowledge and tools to plan and conduct research. We want to build a coaching and education program on research tools and methods for our colleagues.
• Be mindful of GDPR considerations for research projects, and consider the ethics of our research projects.
• Identify bias in research and insight material, and conduct research projects that strive to be free of biases.

Who are you?

• Have a bachelor's degree or higher within relevant fields like Industrial Design, Service Design, UX design, Design Research, Human factors.
• Have three years or more of experience within UX research, Design Research, Product Design, UX Design, Service Design, or other relevant experience within the domain of product development.
• Skilled in leading user validation projects that are confidential, preferably with experience in consumer electronics.
• Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams with various stakeholders where you own your domain knowledge.
• Confident in communicating the impact of insight.
• Experience with the methodology for conducting user research.
• Have good communication skills in English.
• Sociable and like hanging out with the team.
