Do you want to be instrumental in enabling reMarkable’s technology roadmap as our new Site Reliability Engineer?

reMarkable is a Norwegian tech company that develops products and services to help people think better in a distracted world. In a short amount of time, we’ve grown from a small startup to having over 250 permanent employees and two fantastic offices in central Oslo. Following the successful launch of our second-generation paper tablet, which has been named as one of TIME's "100 Best Innovations of 2020", we’re facing new challenges and opportunities as we expand into the global arena. That’s why we’re currently looking for a Site Reliability Engineer who can automate a moon landing! Are you ready to join the exciting growth of a truly unique technology company?

About the role

As a Site Reliability Engineer at reMarkable, you will collaborate closely across teams and disciplines to create processes for income-critical software. Rather than dealing with deprecated technology, you will have the opportunity to work with modern, scalable architectures. We design and develop our own solutions mostly from scratch as part of our market differentiation strategy, from applications to hardware. Our teams operate autonomously and make technological choices that maximize their agility.

We are now looking for more skilled people with the ability to automate and support vast software lifecycles, front to back, while leading ambitious long-term DevOps initiatives. As part of your work as a Site Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for combining your expertise with our internal knowledge to help us reach the next level in cloud operations.

GCP is currently our go-to cloud vendor but we are positioning ourselves for a multi-cloud future through Terraform. We deal with both open source and commercial offerings. Our backend is primarily written in Go, but leverages Node and Python, where it makes sense. Our architecture is mostly event-driven. We prefer managed services often but will go closer to the metal for certain real-time needs. More geolocation, more automation, and intelligent Ops will be central for us going forward.

Main areas of responsibilities and tasks:

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines

  • Drive value from metrics and logs

  • Lead in Platform/DevSecOps discussions with QAs and developers

  • Find common denominators in cross-functional teams to produce scale

  • Investigate root causes across distributed systems

  • Implement geographic redundancy for millions of users

  • Manage our platform on GCP, as well as on future cloud partners

  • Automate infrastructure and plan for growth

  • Deploy or automate smart and minimal documentation

  • Participate in Alphas and Betas to stay up to date with the product development and its requirements

Who are you?

  • Track record in cloud ops and devops within one or more of AWS | Azure | GCP

  • Experience with Linux and Shell, scripting/programming languages

  • Experience with infrastructure as code

  • Experience with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes

  • Experience with SRE work with a close interface to the software, security, and QA engineers

You learn something new every week. You have an analytical mind and think of edge cases, failure modes, and vulnerabilities as soon as you meet a new system. You love to create knowledge for everyone in the most efficient manner. You can’t hold yourself from fixing problems when you discover them. You think that the best mode of communication between machines and humans alike is asynchronous.
