At Northvolt, we don’t only produce innovative, ‘green’ battery cells made from recycled and ethically sourced raw materials. We also develop and produce cutting edge, cloud-connected battery systems. Do you want to be an expert on how these systems work, and help to integrate and support them in the field?
You will be part of a dedicated Embedded Software Support & Integration team in our Stockholm office where your primary role is to support SW development, customer’s SW integration and also to support production and aftermarket teams with more complex SW problems.
You will work closely to System development and learn the system inside out. On a typical working day, you are the main interface between customers and our software developers.
Typical tasks can include, but are not limited to:
The primary role of an Application Engineer is to be part of the software development, test and implementation of new features to ensure software quality and accordingly customer needs and expectations.
Application Engineer should have a good hardware knowledge and understand technical specifications of a broad range of software to address customer concerns.
Assist with the higher-level problems from Aftermarket, handling of more complex software issues to ensure that quality troubleshooting services are delivered to clients in a timely manner.
In some cases need of supporting customer onsite, which involves occasionally travelling inside or outside Sweden.
Feedback experience from customers and production to our software developers and system designers on how to improve our systems within all areas. The key person for customer-facing in order to extract information from customers to feedback project scope and design/re-design solutions.
At Northvolt Systems we make full battery system solutions, at present time for industrial applications and for stationary storage solutions, but the application areas are expected to grow. The electronics, control systems, software and mechanics are mainly developed inhouse. Our battery systems are also connected by Wi-Fi or LTE to enable remote diagnosis and data collection.
We have many upcoming projects within our areas which is expanding our scope. Both the integration and customer support activities are expected to increase rapidly during the coming year.
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Software Engineering or relevant years of experience from a similar role as the one described above
You are curious in how things work and eager to learn more
You like interacting with customers and enjoy a cross function with different teams inside the company.
You like troubleshooting and fixing problems
You enjoy troubleshooting and finding the root cause.
You have relevant hands-on engineering or development experience
You can read schematics and understand systems designs.
You are familiar with with CAN network, you can use PC-based tools for reading out diagnostic trouble codes, uploading software and configuring control units and doing CAN network recordings to find functional issues
You are able to read coding C/C++ and Python
Additional interesting merits:
Experience with debugging and analyzing network traffic, CoAP protocol, Ethernet based communication, Modbus, Wireshark or similar tools
Experience with analyzing big data and SQL knowledge
Experience of battery management systems and/or charging systems
Experience working with high voltage systems (100-1000V)
We are looking forward to your application and hope you want join our journey!

Northvolt makes green batteries for a blue planet. Affordable cells and high-quality battery systems. All manufactured with a record-low carbon footprint. Purposely built to provide Europe with the opportunity to switch to renewable energy – efficiently and entirely.
To accomplish this, we do things differently. We design, manufacture, and recycle everything under one roof. We even build our own factories. All this is incredibly challenging and requires us to think in unconventional ways. We’re constantly experimenting, learning and adapting to make batteries so great – they will one day make oil history.
Northvolt is growing fast. We’re staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We're also hiring for our gigafactory Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå, Sweden. We want to work with smart individuals from all disciplines. Strong individuals that truly want to make a positive impact on the future. Those of us already on board share a passion for our mission. We’re prepared to work hard in pursuit of excellence. We enjoy the ride and our main drive is to make a difference for real. As a team, we’re dedicated to thinking new, working hard and having fun.
