Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) is seeking a Research and Impact Associate who will work alongside the Research and Impact Manager in the New Programs team, which runs three programs - Pre-MEST, MEST Express and MEST Scale in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation (see Appendix 1 for further details).
The Research and Impact Associate will be responsible for supporting research and impact tasks across the entire programming. Research will focus on developing new research into the Ghanaian entrepreneurship and tech ecosystem based on our programming insights alongside our partners. Impact will focus on monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the programs.
Support the design and implementation of research projects
Support the design and implementation of research tools
Support in research analysis and reporting
Coordinate with partners to collect and analyze research data
Conduct primary and secondary research on topics related to youth entrepreneurship and employment, startups, SMEs, technology and innovation in Ghana and beyond
Design and implement data collection tools and systems with MEST program teams and partners (includes surveys, focus group discussions and interviews)
Coordinate and conduct data collection, analysis and database management
Support to gather and disseminate lessons learned from programs
Generate actionable insights based on findings/results for teams to adapt, change and iterate programs
Skills & Requirements
Undergraduate degree with at least 2 years’ work experience
Excellent qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods skills
Experience in technology, innovation, international development and/or public sector is a plus
Experience in statistical analysis tools such as Excel, SPSS and/or Stata
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of impact/monitoring and evaluation methods and practices
Understanding of research methods and practices
Interested in Ghana and the wider African tech, innovation, and entrepreneurship ecosystem
Ability to work and coordinate alongside team members and external stakeholders
Ability to handle multiple tasks and work with tight deadlines
Ability to work independently and carry out tasks and assignments to an excellent standard
Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to collate, analyze, interpret and present complex information to a wide range of audiences
Willingness to travel within Ghana
Meticulous and pays exceptional attention to detail
Strong project management and organizational skills
