Northvolt‘s journey started in Västerås, Sweden with Northvolt Labs, a prototyping factory already in operation. The first phase of giga-factory - Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå is about to start manufacturing, while further expansion project has already kicked off. In Poland we have just broken ground on which a new Northvolt Systems assembly plan will be constructed. In joining us you will play an important part from the very start, building the landscape of first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play a significant role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

We have an awesome job offer for a Senior Packaging Developer, to join our excellent and passionate team in Stockholm. In this role you will work across the entire Northvolt business unit landscape and assist the organisation with your expertise in the field of packaging. You will play pivotal role in Northvolt’s successful growth in Sweden, Poland and beyond.

Your primary assignment will be to draft, anchor and execute on a unified packaging strategy for Northvolt, to paint a road-map and together with the team of fellow packaging engineers and developers, walk it. Northvolt's packaging environment is complex and the needs are varied. The products we carry range from individual small-size battery cells, through full pallets and bins of hazardous powders, chemicals and waste, all the way to massive, 4-tonne-heavy battery packs and systems.

We:

In broad terms and without going into too much detail, Team Planning and Logistics looks after everything that moves or needs to be stored. Before it does, we also need to do quite a bit of planning, but that's a separate story. Other than that, in order for materials, components, finished goods or waste to travel or be stored safely, they need to be packed, palletised and secured safely.

Our job is:

  • to support Northvolt’s mission, growth and expansion with quality planning and logistics design
  • to build a scalable operational and organisational framework, within which Northvolt units execute and
  • to enable a sustainable, resilient and efficient supply chain

You:

First and foremost - you are a real packaging enthusiast and ambassador. You know very well and you are passionate about the role that packaging plays - how it secures the product, how it ensures a safe environment for people to work, how it interacts with automation, how easy and friendly it is if/when handled manually, how it impacts transportation filling rate and contributes to lower cost and emissions.

Secondly, you have an opportunity to assemble a packaging focused team. Responsibility for packaging has recently migrated to Planning and Logistics and we're aiming to streamline our ways of working going forward. You would be the one to lead that effort.

Ideally, you have had a chance to experience all of the above in an environment of very quick growth, where not always are you in possession of all the information you'd wish for and where data at hand may be incomplete.

At Northvolt, we grow like hell. Having shipped only parcels just 3 years ago, we will very soon move tens of thousands of container loads per annum, across various geographies.

It's pretty amazing, right?

Together with the our Packaging Engineers and in liaison with other Northvolt stakeholders in your job you will:

  • define, draft, anchor and execute packaging strategy
  • design, develop and assist in procurement of packaging and handling materials
  • develop requirements for inbound packaging in alignment with Northvolt automated storage and product feed solutions, with consideration for the hazardous nature of some materials
  • develop requirements for finished goods packaging:
    • with consideration for Dangerous Goods regulation
    • one-way and returnable
    • for small volumes (tests, samples)
    • for large volumes (serial production customer deliveries)
  • develop packaging and material handling solutions for internal and intraplant material movement
  • educate Northvolt stakeholders in importance of packaging and palletisation
  • lead continuous improvement activities within the area of packaging and material handling

Skills & Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Normally we're not super picky when it comes to a degree, but in this case it would actually be really good if you had studied packaging or a similar engineering / logistical field
  • It would be super beneficial if you had the experience of building things from scratch - in an environment, where to start off processes were not in place and compliance was poor

  • It would also be pretty cool if you had experience in heavy load securing and lashing

  • You can explain fairly complex things to a child

  • You love diversity. We are 100+ nationalities at Northvolt!

You will get the chance to have a real impact on our success story in Sweden (to start with) and see the results of your work. Our organisation requires and values great self-discipline and a natural talent to make things happen. Planning and Logistics function is of massive importance in the Supply Chain Organisation and key to Northvolt's mission to enable the future of energy.

About the company

Northvolt makes green batteries for a blue planet. Affordable cells and high-quality battery systems. All manufactured with a record-low carbon footprint. Purposely built to provide Europe with the opportunity to switch to renewable energy – efficiently and entirely.

To accomplish this, we do things differently. We design, manufacture, and recycle everything under one roof. We even build our own factories. All this is incredibly challenging and requires us to think in unconventional ways. We’re constantly experimenting, learning and adapting to make batteries so great – they will one day make oil history.

Northvolt is growing fast. We’re staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We're also hiring for our gigafactory Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå, Sweden. We want to work with smart individuals from all disciplines. Strong individuals that truly want to make a positive impact on the future. Those of us already on board share a passion for our mission. We’re prepared to work hard in pursuit of excellence. We enjoy the ride and our main drive is to make a difference for real. As a team, we’re dedicated to thinking new, working hard and having fun.
