Northvolt‘s journey started in Västerås, Sweden with Northvolt Labs, a prototyping factory already in operation. The first phase of giga-factory - Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå is about to start manufacturing, while further expansion project has already kicked off. In Poland we have just broken ground on which a new Northvolt Systems assembly plan will be constructed. In joining us you will play an important part from the very start, building the landscape of first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play a significant role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

We have an awesome job offer for a Senior Compliance Specialist, to join our excellent and passionate team in Stockholm. In this role you will work across the entire Northvolt business unit landscape and assist the organisation with your expertise in the field of compliance. You will play pivotal role in Northvolt’s successful growth in Sweden, Poland and beyond.

Your primary assignment will be to secure that all of Northvolt activities on international markets are conducted by the book. We buy, sell and consign materials across the world, including between 3rd countries. Many of these materials are of strategic nature and are subject to special regulation. Together with the compliance team, you would know what is what and ensure all transactions to run smoothly.
Additionally it is important for the compliance team to have their eyes and ears open on any duty exemption opportunities that may appear in a rapidly growing industry, relatively new for Europe

We:

In broad terms and without going into too much detail, Team Planning and Logistics looks after everything that moves or needs to be stored. Before it does, we also need to do quite a bit of planning, but that's a separate story.

Our job is:

  • to support Northvolt’s mission, growth and expansion with quality planning and logistics design
  • to build a scalable operational and organisational framework, within which Northvolt units execute and
  • to enable a sustainable, resilient and efficient supply chain

You:

First and foremost - you love this stuff. Interaction with authorities is natural to you and you do not shy away from picking up a phone to give customs a ring.

Secondly, reading and understanding regulation feels fun. You know how to translate paragraphs that even lawyers get lost in, into specific actions and address them in a pragmatic, sensible way. You do not only see black and white, but have a good feel on how to navigate then regulatory maze.

Trade compliance function is a very important support role and so by definition you are very service minded and people oriented person.

Lastly, even though you're English, Swedish and Polish might be good, your favourite language is INCOTERMS.

Ideally, you have had a chance to experience all of the above in an environment of very quick growth, where not always are you in possession of all the information you'd wish for and where data at hand may be incomplete.

At Northvolt, we grow like hell. Having shipped only parcels just 3 years ago, we will very soon move tens of thousands of container loads per annum, across various geographies.

It's pretty amazing, right?

Together with the Team and in liaison with Northvolt stakeholders in your job you will:

  • secure Northvolt trade and customs compliance
    • put in place all necessary permits for all Northvolt units
    • correct HS-classify all products
    • secure AEO certification for all Northvolt legal entities
    • advise on how to build Northvolt legal entity set-up from trade compliance point of view
    • secure correct levels of comprehensive guarantees
  • select, manage and audit customs brokers
  • draft all necessary Standard Operational Procedures
  • co-execute customs operations
    • prepare Power of Attorney docs when applicable
    • perform document control and self-audits
    • support cross-trade shipments
  • be the main contact for Cargo Insurance related issue
    • provide input to Legal / Insurance team require for insurance procurement process
    • prepare Notices of Claim and pursue claims with LSPs/insurance companies
    • raise organisations awareness and train your colleagues in trade compliance topics - especially in INCOTERMS
    • propose changes and improvements to Northvolt trade compliance landscape

About the company

Northvolt makes green batteries for a blue planet. Affordable cells and high-quality battery systems. All manufactured with a record-low carbon footprint. Purposely built to provide Europe with the opportunity to switch to renewable energy – efficiently and entirely.

To accomplish this, we do things differently. We design, manufacture, and recycle everything under one roof. We even build our own factories. All this is incredibly challenging and requires us to think in unconventional ways. We’re constantly experimenting, learning and adapting to make batteries so great – they will one day make oil history.

Northvolt is growing fast. We’re staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We're also hiring for our gigafactory Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå, Sweden. We want to work with smart individuals from all disciplines. Strong individuals that truly want to make a positive impact on the future. Those of us already on board share a passion for our mission. We’re prepared to work hard in pursuit of excellence. We enjoy the ride and our main drive is to make a difference for real. As a team, we’re dedicated to thinking new, working hard and having fun.
