THE OPPORTUNITY IN A NUTSHELL

You? Experience in agile development with object-oriented programming, writing testable code and developing web platforms. Eagerness to take part in the product discovery.
Role? Senior Full Stack Developer contributing to the future of Oikotie Asunnot, one of the leading real estate marketplaces in Finland with 1M monthly visitors: designing and implementing scalable and robust web services, APIs and databases in a cloud environment.
Tech stack? OOP with Zend and Slim frameworks, AngularJS, Ecmascript/Typescript, and relational databases (MySQL/Aurora). Environments are run in AWS, and CI/CD pipelines are used to automate builds, run tests and make deployments.
Location? We work in a hybrid way, so you can be based anywhere in Finland! Our team is spread between Helsinki, Tampere and Oulu. The office is located a few steps away from the Helsinki railway station.

WHO ARE YOU?

  • Experience with OOP & writing testable code. Our release is fully automated end-to-end, thus we aim to produce clean code.

  • Mastering JavaScript frameworks such as TS or ES6 and relational databases e.g. MySQL/Aurora.

  • Understanding or experience with Git Flow or Trunk-based development.

  • Fluency in English (even on Monday mornings;-). Our official language is English and we gather people together from multiple backgrounds (memes in Spanish, Indian cooking recipes, database parodies, and dog videos circulate on our Slack channels!).

  • Potentially even experience from high-load SEO-dependent environments and/or CD/CI process & tools. Don’t worry if they are new to you, we’re sure you can pick them up easily!

  • As a person , you are a curious self-starter willing to develop yourself and take on challenges with a problem-solver mindset. WHAT’S THE JOB LIKE?

Responsibilities & projects
As a member of our growing Oikotie Asunnot tech squad, you are one of the key contributors to the new features development and the renewal of the marketplace’s architecture. Your focus is on designing and implementing scalable and robust web services, APIs and databases in a cloud environment. Furthermore, you ensure the quality of our services in the complex hi-load environment through diverse practises like monitoring, efficient logging, automation and unit testing with code coverage. We do discovery work, conceptualization and experimentation guided by OKRs (Objectives - Key Results), we develop in sprints, and release on-demand.

Tech stack
Key technologies in use are Zend and Slim frameworks, AngularJS, Ecmascript/Typescript and MySQL/Aurora. Our containerised and serverless environments run in the AWS and CI/CD pipelines are designed to deliver code into production a few times per week. You jump into a moving train since we are currently transitioning our already modernised stack to an even more modern one. We are still on the move forward and you will be a part of the journey. An open mind for new tech, best practices and methods are celebrated and learnings are guaranteed, as this is a pivotal moment for the Oikotie tech organisation.

Goals
During your first six months, we expect you to get on board, settle in the team, gradually take over your role and collaboratively start building new features for Oikotie Asunnot.

Further down the road, approximately after 12 months, we’re eager to see you standing on your own (we’re here to have your back!). You finish backlog tasks & also contribute to building our vision, strategy and work methods. For example, your expertise is needed in the product discovery initiatives where you would act as a tech expert. How do we bring even more traffic and new listings to our real-estate platform, it’s up to you and to the team!
