Role: Head of Legal - APAC

The Head of Legal - APAC will provide legal advice and assistance on a range of legal subjects in a variety of jurisdictions and will negotiate, lead and close a variety of transactions most particularly related to software licensing, SaaS, and services. You will be fully responsible to lead and drive all legal and compliance matters in the APAC region in co-operation with the regional management team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage, oversee and develop a team of other legal experienced in-house legal professionals in the region
  • Provide commercial legal advice on a wide variety of legal and quasi legal matters directly related to the business
  • Supporting the sales organisation in closing deals and negotiating sales contracts for all APAC markets
  • Review, comment on, draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial and corporate contracts
  • Work closely with partners and third-party suppliers to the business
  • Select, instruct and manage external counsel including external costs
  • Mitigates risk by following established procedures, spotting key errors and demonstrating strong ethical behaviour
  • Collaborating with support functions across the business including HR, Finance, and Engineering
  • Managing and coordinating corporate secretarial work across APAC;
  • Lead and advise on strategic and compliance projects as required, such as data protection, copyright, regulatory, and corporate governance initiatives across APAC
  • Create and implement policies and procedures to ensure legal best practices

Who You Are:

  • A minimum of 8-12+ years’ experience in providing commercial legal advice on a wide variety of legal and quasi legal matters, including software licensing, SaaS, services, partners, drafting and negotiating of complex contracts, intellectual property and copyright matters
  • Experience with a large international company in a similar business is a strong preference

  • Currently based in or willing to relocate to Singapore / Sydney / Melbourne

  • Hold full, unrestricted working rights if based in Australia (working holiday visa is not accepted)

  • Experience in managing a small team of legal professionals

  • Experience with contracting for SaaS products

  • Absolute fluency in English, additional languages is an asset but not a requirement

  • Possesses advanced communication skills and ability to convince others

  • Demonstrable commercial judgement coupled with technical depth and understanding
  • An ability to build relationships with senior management and the business
  • Natural curiosity, technical savvy, and a real passion for working in a customer-focused company where business, technology and law intersect
  • Mentality that no task is too big or too small and a willingness to work together towards solutions with integrity, diplomacy, and tact
  • Capable of managing and prioritizing competing demands
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced multi-cultural environment
