Process Engineer

In order to meet the increased demand for complete battery solutions on the European market, Northvolt is establishing a highly automated, state-of-the-art production facility for battery modules and energy storage solutions in Gdansk, Poland.

Currently we are looking for Process Engineer who will be responsible for the planning and organisation of duties within a given process area that includes, but is not limited by, the development of new or improved manufacturing processes, generation of process specifications, execution of strategic actions, productivity and quality metrics, product flow through the factory, and safety.

Key responsibilities:

  • Development and optimisation of new and existing manufacturing processes to ensure launch of new products and meet future production demands.
  • Generate process specifications.
  • Characterize existing processes, define critical parameters, and establish controls that allow measurement of process capability and monitor existing processes using SPC.
  • Define process development plan, describing major elements of transition from design to manufacturing.
  • Execute DOE’s to optimise process conditions and improve output.
  • Identify and evaluate process improvement areas through data analysis and interpretation.
  • Support Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) activities.
  • Drive process commissioning on new equipment and production lines.
  • Ownership and drive development of the PFMEA.
  • Assist in supplier selection for equipment and components.
  • Approve document control: SOP (Standard Operating procedures, WI (work Instructions) and all equipment documentation within a given process area.
  • Provide production support for all processes.

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications/education/experience

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or similar experience
  • Extensive knowledge in at least one of: tightening, dispensing (1K and 2K materials), laser welding, leakage test and pressing processes
  • 3+ years of work experience in production environment
  • Familiar with Design of Experiments (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design for Manufacturability & Assembly (DFMEA) and QA troubleshooting tools.
  • Successful track record of leading process development projects in prototype and production environment.
  • Experience with evolving products and processes from prototype through production in a fast-growing environment ideally in the Food, Pharma, Paper & Pulp, Semiconductor, Electrochemical or similar industry.
  • Valuable (but not required) if experience in battery industry.

We are currently in an exciting fast-growing phase and operate in a dynamic environment, dealing with a wide range of stakeholders. We are staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs in Västerås, as well as Northvolt Battery Systems Jeden, in Gdansk, for production of battery systems. We are also preparing for upcoming positions at the main factory, Northvolt Ett, in Skellefteå.
