HOW IT WORKS

  • Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.

  • Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, be connected to expert mentors, and get to understand market nuances.

  • Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startups while being paid a stipend.

  • Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup post the fellowship

Startup Partner: Kibanda TopUp

Kibanda Topup is a venture-backed technology company currently operating in Kenya and Nigeria. Its mission is to increase restaurant contribution to Africa’s GDP.

From forecasting capabilities to last-mile deliveries, Kibanda TopUp is building tools that enable small and medium restaurants to access affordable fresh and dry products.

Restaurants need more than an efficient supply chain and the company envisions a world where the average African restaurant has access to digital and financial tools needed to grow and thrive.

Project Description

Kibanda TopUp is looking for an individual with a background and skills in product management who is passionate about building products.

You should be comfortable with using data-driven methods and be able to manage the success of software products through experiments, established tools, and work with cross-functional teams to design, build and roll out products.

Project Deliverables

  • Define and deliver a roadmap of feature improvement and product launches based on defined business goals, objectives and strategy

  • Within this, define and develop a program and timeline which includes design, technology/development partner and audience feedback and testing

  • Deeply understand the business' critical need to maintain first-mover status while improving its technology and revenue through optimization of partner relationships – all the while launching new products

  • Work with the engineering team to deliver a scalable architecture that not just meets current needs, but considers future growth scenarios

  • Manage and communicate dependencies with other teams

  • Prioritize between new features and operational excellence

Reports to: Head of Product

Skills & Requirements

  • Experience building and developing products for a tech start-up company

  • Proven product development ability

  • Familiar with customer research approaches

  • Ability to use data and analysis for product planning and understanding impact

  • Experience participating in technical discussions and running meetings with technical and business leaders

  • Comfortable with a dash of chaos and can work in a start-up environment (Kibanda TopUp is a fast-growing company!

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner, seeking out areas that need attention, rather than being asked to look at specific problem areas.

  • Working knowledge of Africa is a plus.
