Mentimeter is one of the fastest growing scale-ups in Sweden. We are building a modern and diverse profitable product-first tech company and are based in Stockholm. Our vision is to transform presentations and meetings into fun and interactive experiences by making it easy to listen and to be heard, as well as create meaningful engagement.

To achieve this vision, we must meet the demands of our current 150 million user base and scale to meet the future. This puts a high demand on our engineering organization, and we are planning on doubling our team within the next 18 months while maintaining our culture, innovation speed, and delivery quality.

In this journey, we are looking for a VP of Engineering to work together with our CTO and engineering managers to build a world-class engineering organization.

Please note that we are an English-first company, meaning you don't have to know Swedish to work here. Make sure your application and relevant documents are in English.

What you will do

As VP Engineering of Mentimeter, your job is to make everyone in the engineering organization successful, and you are expected to solve the challenges that get in the way of success.

You lead and drive the strategic agenda of the Engineering part of the Product organization together with the Engineering leadership group, and together you have the responsibility of managing the Engineering organization.

You will be a role model in the organization, and it is essential that you can live our values, and that you are part of driving the overall Mentimeter agenda as part of the Engineering Leadership agenda. Continuously working on building a psychologically safe environment is essential to this as well as continuously learning and growing as an individual.

A key part of the role is leading and having line management responsibility for the Engineering Managers. You will spend substantial time working with them on their leadership growth. Your relationship is based on high trust and close collaboration, and it is essential that you show situational leadership and that this is in line with Mentimeter core values.

You are expected to ensure that the engineering organisation is aligned with the structure of our technological platform and architecture, and vice versa. This means close cooperation with the CTO and other leading engineering domain experts to ensure these areas go well together.

You will not be creating the tech vision or taking care of supplier relationships as the CTO does this; nor will you create road maps as this is done by Product part of the Product organisations or do programming as our engineer colleagues will do this.

Skills & Requirements

As VP Engineering of Mentimeter, you are a great manager, communicator, recruiter, team builder and engineer. You have a deep interest and experience in building an engineering organization by recruiting, structuring, and leading it.

You have tried out different leadership roles in expanding companies including doing line management for individual contributors as well as managers. You are an inclusive manager, who shares knowledge generously and encourages others to do the same as you naturally work with transparency and trust in your leadership style. You have used these skills to develop top engineering talents.

While you are not expected to develop software, you have a level of technical knowledge from an engineering/developer background (preferably academic). You are a person who has an interest in industry trends as well as good/best practices like agile development practices etc.

Change is something that you thrive with, and you use tools like data, clear goals, expectations, and leadership to drive that change and form the direction of the group.

As a person, you feel safe to show vulnerability and share failures, mistakes and learnings openly. You know that conflicts are a part of a healthy environment, and you address and handle them early, so they don’t become unmanageable. You know how to be professional, perform and have fun at the same time.

Last but not least: You have a curious mindset, are open to learning & sharing knowledge and of course: you are interested in working with our great engineers, the Product Organization and the rest of Mentimeter.
