Startup Partner: Helium Health

Helium Health is an EHR company specializing in developing hospital software to manage patients’ health records and data.

They are on a mission to accelerate Africa's transition to a technology and data-driven healthcare sector and to advance universal health coverage by providing a suite of full-service solutions for all healthcare stakeholders in emerging markets.

Project Description

Helium Health is ultimately looking for a Head of Investments to oversee its internal and external investment team. You will be responsible for growing the Helium Health investment portfolio by sourcing, appraising, structuring, and executing investment deals.

Key Project Deliverables

  • Investment and Portfolio Management

    • Develop investment philosophy. Identify and vet opportunities as they fit into the investment strategy
    • Develop financial models, risk/return projections and valuations of opportunities and investments. This includes forecasts of investment returns and overall portfolio returns.
    • Prepare credible and convincing cases on investment opportunities to the Investment Committee.
    • Manage and execute investment memo preparation, due diligence, legal documents and agreements structuring and negotiations. Close and monitor post-investment deal performance
    • Monitor and evaluate investment performance against key targets, including the management and reporting of potential business/investment risks as they arise
    • Developing and maintaining an active pipeline of investment opportunities globally and managing relations with stakeholders involved in the execution of the investment cycle
    • Market Research and Analysis

    • Lead market research and analysis efforts into uncovering both global and local macroeconomic trends.

Skills & Requirements

  • 8 - 12 years’ of investment experience including deal structuring and closing, investment management, exit management and a Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Master's Degree in Business Administration, Economics or related field.

  • Strong financial analysis and business assessment skills.

  • Experience of the financial needs of businesses through a professional background in finance, commercial lending, private equity or venture capital investment.

  • Experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative and trusted relationships with investors, other financiers and private sector players, and government counterparts, in the tech community.

  • Ability to articulate market intelligence as it applies to market opportunities to invest in building technological markets.

  • Solid understanding of the major stakeholders and technological landscape of Africa, emerging and developed markets.

  • Ability and track record of thinking outside the box in identifying opportunities to invest in technology markets.

  • Experience of working in a multicultural/multi-country environment.

  • Strong business and investment acumen

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
