Equipment Engineer

Northvolt is a European supplier of high-quality battery cells and systems, made in an environmentally sustainable way. The company was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest recycling capabilities.

In the plant located in Gdańsk we produce energy storage systems and battery modules that replace internal combustion engines in industrial machines. Currently Northvolt Poland is increasing its manufacturing capabilities by building a highly-automated, state-of-the-art production plant.

Currently we are looking for Equipment Engineer who will be responsible for developing manufacturing methods, including high-end automated equipment for processes such as adhesive dispensing, Laser Welding, and Test station, based on process and design requirements. Equipment Engineer becomes a part of Manufacturing Engineering Team close cooperating with Product Design Team and Operation Team in a production facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize new and existing manufacturing processes to ensure successful launch and integration of new products
  • Generate process and equipment specifications, process defect and reaction matrix, process validation plans
  • Characterize existing processes, define critical process parameters and establish process controls that fulfill targeted Machine and Process Capabilities, First Pass Yield (FPY), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and Scrap
  • Support Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) activities
  • Define tools required for equipment and process validation
  • Drive equipment and process commissioning on new equipment and production lines by being in charge of equipment Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT)
  • Involved in plant commissioning and start-up
  • Lead and participate in equipment and process design reviews with equipment suppliers and integrators
  • Identify potential equipment suppliers for defined processes
  • Continuous equipment and process improvement by executing Design of Experiments (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC) and implementing Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant and Time-based (S.M.A.R.T) goals approach
  • Ownership and drive development of PFMEA
  • Approve document control: Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Work Instructions (WI) and all equipment documentation within a given process area

Skills & Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or similar experience
  • Extensive knowledge in at least one of: tightening, dispensing (1K and 2K materials), laser welding, leakage test and pressing processes
  • 3+ years of work experience in equipment process control, lean standards, process development in prototype and production environment
  • Experience with product and processes from prototype through production in a high volume and high pace environment (preferable production industries: battery, electronics, food, pharma, semiconductor)
  • CAD 2D/3D knowledge is a plus
  • Very good command of English
