Startup Partner: Turaco

Turaco is a fast-growing inclusive insurance start-up that is bringing a new model to health and risk financing for emerging market consumers. It offers subscription-based insurance delivered via distribution partnerships.

Turaco's mission is to free people from the fear of financial shocks by offering tailor-made, affordable insurance products that add real value to their lives. Its 25-year goal is to insure 1 billion people, doubling the number of insured people in the world.

Project Description

Turaco is looking for a research and data-driven individual who will work with the Head of Growth to define new market expansion plans. In its simplest form, the role of the Growth Analyst is to understand Turaco’s business, KPIs, and the landscape of potential countries for growth and expansion opportunities.

You must develop a comprehensive understanding of the insurtech landscape, and have the ability to recommend growth strategies that will impact the bottom line.

Day-to-day activities will include leading market expansion research and presenting findings to Turaco’s leadership team, participating in partnership meetings, and assisting in business operations of Turaco’s newest market, Nigeria.

Above all, Turaco is looking for someone who has a proven ability to wear different hats, hack away with little direction to get things done, and someone who can think outside the box.

Key Project Deliverables

  • Collect and analyze data on new markets and consumer behaviour in order to determine the viability for Turaco’s model in various new countries and consolidate information into actionable items, reports and presentations.

  • Provide competitive analysis on various companies’ market offerings, identify market trends, pricing/business models, sales and methods of operation

  • Remain fully informed on market trends, other parties researches and implement best practices

  • Extend into account management and implementation as needed, for very large strategic partnerships

  • Own and develop relationships with partners, working with them to optimize and enhance our integration

  • Proactively map and assess key players within targeted segments of the ecosystem, and execute a strategy to continually engage with leaders in these segments

  • Work closely with the Legal, Marketing, Finance, People and Tech team to coordinate expansion activities

Reports to: Head of Growth

Skills & Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in startup expansion, management consulting, or a similar role

  • Deep understanding of business models, and growth loops

  • Experience building trust and partnerships with interdisciplinary teams and external clients and their stakeholders

  • Experience identifying, solving, and articulating complex business and product goals

  • A high degree of digital fluency using cloud-based office tools such as GSuite, CRMs, team collaboration tools (such as Asana), and other web-based applications; ability to incorporate these tools into day-to-day work

  • Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with an ability to articulate and synthesize information in a compelling and organized manner

  • Self-directed individual with a value for autonomy and freedom at work. Comfortable translating high-level goals into an actionable plan and can execute with minimal oversight

  • Analytical thinker with strong theoretical and desk research proficiencies
