Ekbacken Studios is a sustaintech startup that creates design furniture, sustainably produced from upcycled waste materials such as ocean plastic.

Ekbacken Studios was established in 2021 by five founders united in a passion for design and sustainability: Axel Andersson – an industrial engineer from Sweden, Jon Erik Borgen - a naval architect and serial entrepreneur from Norway, Karoline Teigland – a mechanical engineer from Sweden, Kristina Tjäder, the creative founder of the Swedish sustainable fashion brand, House of Dagmar, and Dr. Robin Teigland – digitalization professor at Chalmers University of Technology and originally from USA.

Ekbacken Studios is a spinoff of Peniche Ocean Watch, a blue circular economy initiative co-founded by Robin and Jon Erik to upcycle reclaimed fishing nets in Portugal.
