Our Marine organization is a trusted provider of innovative solutions for the worldwide boating and boat building industry, and we recently expanded our scope to lead the boating industry into an electrified future. We are on growth journey – now looking for our next star – a passionate Design Leader – Electrical. This position reports to Engineering Manager will work in Vancouver, BC.
Vancouver:
Dometic Marine’s headquarters are in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. The facility develops and manufactures hydraulic, electronic, and combustion-based products.
As Design Leader – Electrical on the Vancouver team, you will be involved in leading, mentoring and developing Electronic Designers, while continuing to directly contribute to new product development and continuous improvement. In conjunction with new product development, the Designer Leader - Electrical is expected to assist with validation and qualification testing to ensure products meet the rigorous functional and safety standards associated with Dometic Marine products. In addition, responsibilities may also include monitoring progress and resources to ensure programs are within budget, schedule, performance specifications and safety criteria. Team members will be working alongside electronic, embedded firmware, and mechanical product designers to solve a variety of technical challenges to develop novel technologies that pave roads towards successful product launches.
General Responsibilities
- Technical lead for Electronic Development Engineering team.
- Review and evaluate design solutions to meet cost and functional targets.
- Review and provide technical direction for product solutions to meet design requirements.
- Review and approve design validation plans for new products/designs.
- Circuit design including schematic capture, component selection, PCB layout, and routing using Altium Designer (or an equivalent electronic CAD program)
- Advocate best practices and look for continuous improvement opportunities.
- Hold design reviews and conduct validation tests (EMC, EFT, and other automotive qualification testing)
- Design electronic products, assemblies and components to meet design requirements.
- Represent the design engineering team in multi-function program teams which include product management, manufacturing, quality, production, and supply chain management for new product launches and continuous product improvements.
- Identify market opportunities and research solutions; estimate project design times and cost estimates.
- Monitor status, maintain program commitments and report out progress on programs.
- May be required to act as Program Manager for smaller programs.
- Promote group discussions, collaboration, team work, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance evaluations (PMP) and recommend individual development.
- Assist in applications support and troubleshooting as required.
- Complete additional job duties and assignments up to 15% of the time.

Skills & Requirements
The ideal candidate for this role will bring demonstrated success in (operational/engineering/manufacturing/etc.) environment. Additionally, they will have acquired the following qualifications and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronic, Physics or related engineering discipline is required
- Minimum 5+ years of industry or relevant electronic design experience; candidates with 10+ years are preferred
- Consumer electronic product design experience and new product development experience, ideally related to automotive and/or safety critical systems
- Strong proficiency in Altium Designer, or equivalent electronic CAD program
- Knowledge of motor drive technologies and topologies including: pre-driver theory, MOSFET technologies, motor drive strategies, and motor technologies
- Knowledge of sensor technologies related to position, acceleration, temperature, GPS, IMU, and relevant parameters associated with selection of appropriate sensors
- Knowledge of microcontroller parameters related to selecting components based on specifications and applications
- Familiar with PCB manufacturing processes and fabrication capabilities, specifically as it relates to interfacing with external fabrication houses
- Working knowledge of communication interfaces such as CAN, SPI, I2C, RS232
- Experience with troubleshooting EMC related issues during the certification testing of a product
- Familiar with lithium batteries, battery chargers, battery management
- Familiar with QFD, Design and Process FMEA’s.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as SAE, ASTM, ISO, and familiarity with with ISO9001 requirements.
